A/Prof Dimitra Peppa

Dimitra Peppa is an Associate Professor in HIV Immunology and an Honorary HIV Consultant at the Institute of Immunity and Transplantation (IIT), University College London. She completed her medical training at University College London, where she also earned her Ph.D., focusing on the role of NK cells in HBV infection. Her research revealed how a specific death pathway contributes to NK cell-mediated deletion of CD8 T cells during chronic HBV infection. Following her Ph.D., she received an MRC clinician scientist fellowship to explore the function of NK cells in HIV infection and their role in regulating broadly neutralising antibody responses at the University of Oxford.

Currently, her research lab examines the role of NK cells in chronic viral infections, including HIV and HBV, as well as emerging viral threats like SARS-CoV-2. The team's work emphasises translational research aimed at identifying new targets for potential cure strategies and vaccine development. New projects are focused on harnessing NK cells for cancer immunotherapy, translating insights from chronic viral infections and innovative methods to leverage the therapeutic potential of adaptive NK cells in renal cell carcinoma.
