Getting to Hobart

As Australia's only island state, access to Tasmania is by air and sea only. Regular flights depart from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and fly direct to Hobart and Launceston. Click here to read more about visas into Australia.

Direct flights are available from the Gold Coast, Adelaide and Perth to Hobart, and from Adelaide to Launceston.

Link Airways are also now operating direct flights from Canberra to Hobart.

Alternatively many visitors travel to Tasmania from Melbourne by sea on the Spirit of Tasmania. Departing from Melbourne and arriving in Devonport, this has the added benefit of letting you bring your own car and make the most of Tasmania's touring potential.

Taxi

A designated taxi rank is located directly out front of the terminal building with taxi fares to Hobart CBD costing between $35 to $50 depending on the time of day and traffic conditions.

Car Rentals

To give you the most flexibility to explore Tasmania, hiring a car from the Hobart Airport is a great choice. There are seven car rental companies including some of Australia’s best known car rental companies located inside the Arrivals area of the terminal. Book ahead of time by visiting this page before you arrive to find a good deal. Your rental company will direct you to the correct parking location to collect your vehicle.

Parking

Public Transport

The Hobart Express SkyBus runs from Hobart Airport to 6 stops in the heart of Hobart including Campbell Street directly opposite the AMSA 2024 venue - Hotel Grand Chancellor. With an average trip time of just 30 minutes, the Skybus is a fast and low cost airport transfer option at less than $40 for a return trip.
